Special Talent Volunteers
Provide trustworthy services for those who no longer have a spouse to help.
SPECIAL TALENT VOLUNTEERS (STV)
Special Talent Volunteers are teams of men and women with general handyman skills and specific expertise in easily addressable areas. Typically, these services are low-cost or no-cost. The Relationship Team must inform leadership before commencing significant projects, and the team member must apply/work order, which must be approved before any work can begin. Most service requests involve home, property, or vehicle repairs, and decisions are made case-by-case. Widows often prefer paying for repairs but may struggle to find trustworthy individuals, especially while grieving. The Relationship Team plays a role in safeguarding against potential exploitation.
Costs for repairs are typically covered by the widow/widower or a family member whenever possible. Before any work begins, the widow/widower must agree upon and sign a liability waiver and be approved for the repair before any work begins. Additional guidelines exist for repairing rental properties.
If your repair is out of our expertise, we will tell you upfront and refer you to a professional on our approved vendor lists. Still, the responsibility for decisions is up to the widow/widower.
We aim to serve our widowed population and to stand in the gap for that widow or widower.
